Solution:
Many food items containing fats and oils give unpleasant smell and bad taste if not consumed for a long time because food items get oxidised by the oxygen (of air) their oxidation products have unpleasant smell and taste.
The condition produced by aerial oxidation of fats and oils in foods marked by unpleasant smell and taste is called Rancidity.
Rancidity spoils the food material prepared in fats and oil which have kept for a considerable time and makes them unfit for eating.
