Metals have the ions (cations- +ve charge and electrons -ve charge) packed closely by forces of attraction. Thus the lattice structure is quite packed as shown here: You get a pretty solid structure with almost no air gaps between. Thus the high density.

Metals have high density because atoms are closely packed with each other. So, Mass increases in lesser Volume thus increase in density.
