Why do metals rust? and we can see a greenish coating in them I have no idea

Moisture present in atmosphere reacts with metal surface and forms their oxides and corrode them. In Iron it forms reddish brown layer but in Cu it forms green layer. Sulphide present in air act on silver and corrode them with black layer. Corrosion is very harmful for a substantial.
