Monsoon winds retreat during October- November because of change in the pressure. The low pressure on the Indian subcontinent changes to high pressure and the high pressure on the Indian ocean changes to low pressure and hence wind from the subcontinent blows towards the ocean.

The retreat of these winds takes place due to weakening of low pressure area over the northwestern parts. This happens due to low temperatures caused by apparent shift of the sun towards the equator and also owing to the widespread rains bringing down temperatures perceptibly.
