Only in a reaction between a metal and nonmetals do elements form ions because of tendency of a metal to donate and electron to attain a positive charge and the tendency of a nonmetal to accept an electron to attain a negative charge, The attraction between these charges is called electrostatic force which keeps the molecule stable
