the food remains in the mouth is attacked by the microorganisms due to which acid is formed which reduces pH level of mouth ... this acid corrodes the enamel of our teeth and causes tooth decay ...that is why to neutralise this acid toothpaste or weak alkalis are used so that they do not damage our teeth ...
