Narmad and Tapi are among the few Indian rivers which flow towards the Arabian sea, that is their flow is in westward direction while almost all of the rivers in India flow in the eastward direction. The reason for this unusual phenomena is that these two rivers flow in the rift valley between the Vindhyan and Satpura mountains. This rift was created during the formation of Himalayan mountain system.
