Why do nerve cells have long projections. pls i need the answers urgently

The thin long projections in nerve cells or neurons are called  dendrites or axons. They are long because they have to carry information or electrical pulses/current (with an electric potential) from one to another.  If they are shorter or thicker, then the electrical pulses will not be so strong.
