Novels used vernacular because ::-

.) Many of the people in those times, used to speak vernacular. So, they began reading novels written in vernacular.

.) Thus , they felt connected to the novels and began living their lives like the character in the novel. Thus, these novels began becoming best sellers.

.) Many of the people living in far off places, began understanding the language, cultures, etc. of a community living far from them. This created an attacment among the people of the country.

.) Vernacular novels also helped in creating a sense of collective belonging among the Indians. Many people began reading vernacular novels written about India's pride and achievements, and felt to do something for india's independene.

.) Also, the elites began reading vernacular novels. So, the began understanding the cultures, festivals, languages , day to day lifestyle, of the lower caste people. ( only lower caste people because they were the one who used to speak vernacular.).
