Most palm trees that grow naturally in deserts, ie in the wild, grow in sandy washes where there is deep water, and where the rain that falls over a large areatends to flow through and filter down in to replenish. This is the date palms in North Africa and the Mideast, the Washington palms in California, Arizona and adjacent Mexico, and the Livingstonia palms in Australia, aswell as others. Some desert palms also livenear oasis, which are also watered by ground water even if there is no surface water evident. Some live in very rocky places, where the rainalso is concentrated into deep moist seams and fractures.
