Ordinary people have preserved the memory of Mirabai because her songs openly challenge the norms of the upper castes.

Mirabai was a Rajput princess wedded into the imperial house of Mewar. But she never wanted the life of a mansion. Hence, she left it and converted into the follower of Ravidas, a philanthropist from a degree contemplated as "untouchable". She dedicated her life to Lord Krishna and produced countless bhajans representing her deep commitment. Her poems also simply examined the patterns of the 'upper' classes and became grew with the common people. Formerly Mirabai swallowed the poison given by her husband. Still, she did not disappear. This episode turned to be very famous. People believed that she was protected by Lord Krishna. Thus she was declared to a true follower.
