People hide things due to various reasons.
EXPLANATION:
The first reason is that they want to hide a thing from you because they might do a mistake. Thinking about the consequences they may hide it from you. For example: If a mother is very strict about getting good marks in school, the children may hide their answer papers from the mother if they got low marks.
The other reason would be they might hide things from their loved ones because it may hurt them. For example, If a father has bought a precious gift to a child and if it was broken, the kid may hide it from the father in order not to hurt his feelings.
The other reason to hide things is to give a surprise. For example, if one of the siblings has her birthday and the other wants to gift her something, he/she can hide it from his/her sister.
