people living on the cost have enough iodine in the form of salt in their diet which does not make them suffer from a desiseas caused due to hypo thyroidism or undersecretion of thyroxine hormone by the thyroid gland

People living in coastal areas have their main diet as sea food which contains a lot of iodine.

EXPLANATION:

Also, sea water is salty and contains iodine thereby enabling the people to maintain levels of iodine in their bodies. This is why people of coastal areas does not suffer from 'goitre'.

Goitre is mainly caused because of the 'deficiency of iodine' in the body. When the body gets iodine in sufficient quantities, goitre does not affect the body.
