Why do people not consider dalit as equal even though the law says it

bcoz of their mind set... they think and consider Dalits as lower caste and also restrict their entries in temples... but law and Constitution States that all people all equal in the eyes of law

This is because India followed a ridgid caste system since ancient times in which shudra was the lowest caste. The system was so rigid that they were considered untouchables amd lived in inhuman conditions amd did the most unrespectable jobs. India seems to have not completely given away with the caste system.
