Why do people say that girls are burden on them but not boys.​

Explanation:

I think that the days when girls were considered as a burden by the parents are far gone. Although, parents do feel an extra responsibility and a sense of fear/tension when it comes to the girl child. The main reason for this is how the 'Society' (specially in India) works.

Now, if the girl is not pretty/good-looking, then the parents would find it difficult to find a 'good' husband for her. (The understanding of a good husband is completely different in India and lets not get into that. Also, almost every male wants a good looking girl irrespective of her behavior). And marriage is a big issue in India, because if she does not get married at the 'right age', what will the "society" say. (And here we call it 'Chaar log kya kahenge' which literally translates to 'what will four people say?').

So yes, being a female does have disadvantages in the Society and can be an extra responsibility for the parents
