Why do phenol does not give the protonation reaction?

The lone pair on oxygen of O-H inphenol is shared with benzene ring through resonance. So the lone pair is not fully present on oxygen.Hencephenols do not undergo protonation reactions. Electron density on oxygen in phenoxide ion is decreased due to resonance
