Why do phenol not give protonation reaction readily?

The lone pair on oxygen of O-H in phenol is shared with benzene ring through resonance. So the lone pair is not fully present on oxygen.Hence phenols do not undergo protonation reactions

Oxygen in phenol is shared with benzene, the lone pair is not present on oxygen therefore the phenol is not give protonation reaction readily......
