Pitcher plant eats insects for its nitrogen requirement.
On the product of photosynthesis is carbohydrates and are also converted into protien and fats.Besides carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, protiens also contain NITROGEN.Nitrogen is present in the air but plants cannot use this nitrogen directly.
In normal plants there is a bateria known as RIZOBIUM present in the root. But,in pitcher plant there is no such bacteria present in the root and they depend upon insects for their nitrogen requirement.
