Why do plants close their stomata when they do not perform photosynthesis ?

plants do it to not allow excess of sunlight to enter their any other internal procesess{but still you can add more}

*the opening and closing of stomata is governed by the gaurd cells
*the gaurd cells swell up when water enters into them,thus it opens
*but when the plant do not performe photosynthesis i.e.when it does not need CO2 andH2O
*then it closes as it can lost large amount of water ifit is opened
