why do plants grow better in soil then in sand

sand can only hold water for a short amount of time,as soon as water is poured it just immediately seeps through th sand on the other hand soil can hold water for a longer amount of time keeping the plant hydrated

1.high moisture
2.high water holding capacity
3.tightly packed
4.this is high fertile than soil
5.all process takes place easily
