Why do plants take in nitrogen only from the soil?

Answer:Because they cannot use the nitrogen present in atmosphere directly.They cannot use the nitrogen present in the atmosphere freely. that's why they takes nitrogen from the soil in the form of amino acids, nitrate ions etc.
