The main driving force of plate tectonics is gravity. If a plate with oceanic lithosphere meets another plate, the dense oceanic lithosphere dives beneath the other plate and sinks into the mantle. This process is called subduction.

Hii
here is your answer
The crust of the earth is not made by single layer, it is made by several layers. Some of them are large and some are small. These layers are also known as the lithospheric plates. These are seven major plates and several small plates. These plates are move slowly (just a few millimetres every year). This is because of the heat generated by the molten magma of the earth inside it. The molten magma inside the earth moves in a circular manner. The movement of these plates causes changes on the earth surface.
