Why do porters wear turbans when they have to carry heavy loads on their heads?

So that thier heads were protected as they were carrying a huge amount of force on their heads

We know that Pressure = Force / Area
So for a given force, more the area of contact lesser is the pressure and vice versa.
This this why porters wear turbans as they provide more surface area and hence reduce the pressure.
