Why do raindrops falling under gravity do not aquire very high velocity

Due to viscousity(or friction) and upthrust of air,the viscous force and upthrust balances the force of gravity on the rain drop with the result that the net force on the drop becomes zero.Then the drop falls down with a uniform velocity.
