Why do RBCs do not have mitochondria ?

RBCs donot have mitochondria because they do still have cytoplasmic enzymes that are capable for burning glucose and small amount of ATP....

cellular processes as a result of not containing mitochondria ,RBC 's use none of the oxygen they transport . Instead they produce the energy carrier ATP by the glycolysis of glucose and lactic acid fermentation on the resulting piruvate
