When rbc's are kept in distilled water which is a hypotonic solution. water move into the cell causing it to swell up burst, this process is called hemolysis. whereas,  Plant cell have an additional cell wall which stabilises the cell and prevents the bursting while the cell membrane of the mammalian cell cannot withstand the pressure and bursts.
