1) Soil conditions are too wet an anaerobic condition can be created and seeds may not be able to germinate due to lack of oxygen.
2) Light– some seeds need light for germination.

The seeds sown very deep inside the soil fail to germinate because:
(i) No proper supply of oxygen (for respiration)
(ii) Insufficient pushing force in the embryonic parts (hypocotyl or epicotyl) to break through the upper layers of soil
