Silver articles turn black due to corrosion of siver. The silver absorbs hydrogen sulphide (H2S) from the air and turns black in colour due to the formation of silver sulphide(Ag2S).
Reaction-
2Ag (s)+ H2S(g) =Ag2S(s) + H2(g)
grey. black
Note=the arrow symbol is not present that is why I have put this equal to sign= but in exams you will only use arrow symbol.
the phenomenon is corrosion and the black coloured compound is Silver sulphide(Ag2S)

Silver article turns black when kept in the air because silver reacts with sulphur compounds such as hydrogen sulphide (H2S) present in air and forms silver sulphide.
