Because Silver ornaments lose their shine when kept for some time since they undergo corrosion over a period of time. Silver reacts with Sulphur when kept in the open and a black coating of silver sulphide is developed on the silver ornaments, which gives the effect of the silver losing its shine.

hope it will help u .
