Why do snakes lay fewer eggs than frogs?

Fish and frogs lay thousands of eggs. Most of them get eaten. Very wasteful as far as the fish and frogs are concerned, but a good food source for other animals.
Bigger, “higher” animals produce fewer eggs, or have fewer live babies if we are talking about mammals, and a higher percentage will survive.
