Why do solids have a fixed shapeand a definite volume?

Explanation:

The molecules in a solid are closely packed with each other. The intermolecular force in a solid is very strong as compared to gases and liquid. The intermolecular space is the weakest in solids.

Therefore solids have a fixed shape and fixed volume
