Why do solids have an open surface are while gases don not? Explain.

becauseThe particles of solids are very close to each other and force of attraction between the particles is very strong.Therefore, solids have a definite compact structure and an open surface. While the particles of gases are very far away from each other and have least force of attraction between them. Therefore, gases do not have definite shape, they diffuse easily into air and hence have no open surface area
