Any matter that is a solid has a definite shape and a definite volume. The molecules in a solid are in fixed positions and are close together. Although the molecules can still vibrate, they cannot move from one part of the solid to another part. As a result, a solid does not easily

Solids have a definite shape and fixed volume because:

  • Solid particles are very tightly packed.
  • Solids have very less intermolecular spaces between them.
  • The particles of solids have a very strong force of attraction between them.
  • The particles of solid are strongly bonded to each other.

Hence due to these reasons, the solids have a definite shape and fixed volume.
