solids have fixed shape but liquids and gases do not have fixed shape because the intermolecular space between the atoms of solid matter is very very less, the particles just so vibratory and rotatory motion. ... this change in space between the particles make them fixed and unfixed in shape.

Solids have a higher force of attraction as compared to liquids. Due to this the molecules of solid are closely packed together and are unable to move this results into the solid being hard to break but in water the force of attraction is less and hence the molecules have space to roam about freely...... This is the reason y solids have a fixed shape and liquids do not...
