why do some people say that India is a federation with unitary features? explain with the help of any five constitutional provisions

Unitary government is known as a centralized government. In such government all powers held by the government belong to a single, central agency. The central government creates local units of government for its own convenience. A unitary system is governed constitutionally as one single unit, with one constitutionally created legislature. All power is top down. A unitary state is a sovereign state governed as one single unit in which the central government has the supreme power.


Unitary Features of Indian constitution:

The States of Indian Don’t have their own constitution as in the states of USA and Australia have their own constitution.

Uniform and single Citizenship in India (Australia and USA have double citizenship).

Parliament can make the changes of territorial extent of a State without its consent.

Parliament has full control over the Union list subjects as well as residuary power vests with the centre.

With the two-third majority, Rajya Sabha can authorize Parliament to make laws on any State subject (Article 249).

Federation with unitary features means its principles allows for a positive social cohesion and promotes unity among the members of a particular nation. The constitution allows for freedom of any individual citizen to freedom of choosing anywhere and live within the boundaries of India at any particular region thus promoting unity.
