Insectivorous plants trap insects because they grow in soil which is usually thin and is also poor in nutrient. So for making themselves rich in nutrients they eat insects. Some pitcher plants contain mutualistic insect larvae, which feed on trapped prey, and whose excreta the plant absorbs.
