Because of density...if the density of substance will be more than density of water it will sink...if density of substance is less than water it will float

If the density of substance will be more than density of water it will sink and if density of substance is less than water it will float. Also if the weight of the substance is more than the upthrust exerted by the liquid on the substance, then the substance will sink and if the weight of the substance is less than the upthrust exerted by the liquid on the substance, then the substance will float. So some substances sink and others floats to the beaker filled with water.
