Due to continous strain on the spring, the spring become less elastic and loses its strength this phenomenon is called elastic fatigue. Due to this the spring show wrong reading.

spring balance show wrong readings after long use because it's spring becomes loose due to which the marking goes down...
this is because of continous usage , the wire loses its elasticity and does not regain its original configuration.this is why it shows wrong readings.
