The Government openly declared that it was their duty to foster and grow on religion, Buddhism. This created distrust among most Tamils whom were Christians in majority. Furthermore, the government's prevalence to give jobs to Sinhala job applicants rather than Tamils have created a distrust among the two communities do deep, that it lead to a civil war which affected Sri Lanka both economically and socially.
