Answer:

To explain:

Why do stars twinkle?

Concept:

Stars are light emitting celestial bodies. The light originating from the Stars reach the Earth's atmosphere. The various layers of Earth's atmosphere has different refractive indices and hence the light undergoes refraction.

At one instance , the light undergoing refraction reaches a person's eyes and that person is able to see the stars .

In the next instance , changes in atmospheric conditions leads to changes in refraction patterns . As a result , the light may not reach the eye of the same person. Hence the person is not able to see the star at that moment.

This repeated change in Refraction Patterns make the stars appear to twinkle in the night sky.

★ Stars twinkle due to refraction of light coming from star. As star is so far from earth it appears as point size source of energy. The ray of light of star coming from space after entering Earth's atmosphere it bents and the position of star differ from the actual postion. Also the physical condition of the earth is not constant it is affected by winds in the atmosphere and by areas with different temperatures and densities, the position of the star fluctuates which causes the light from the star to twinkle when seen from the ground.
