Why do stars twinkle?

the main cause is refraction of light.

The refractive index of  atmospheric pressure is continiously changing due to blowing of air as a ray of light coming from stars enters atmosphere. it undergoes several refraction several times thus,the apperent position of stars is always changing thus,The stars appear to be twinkle
