Stars do not really twinkle , they just appear to twinkle when seen from the surface of Earth. The stars twinkle in the night sky because of the effects of our atmosphere. The hen starlight enters our atmosphere , it is affected by winds in the atmosphere and by areas with different temperature and densities.

This cause the light from stars to twinkle when seen from ground , due to atmospheric refraction.

Answer:

The movement of air (sometimes called turbulence) in the atmosphere of Earth causes the starlight to get slightly bent as it travels from the distant star through the atmosphere down to us on the ground. ... To our eyes, this makes the star seem to twinkle.
