Stars twinkle at night due to atmospheric refraction. The amount of light coming from the star is point sized as it enters in the earth it appears to be little bent from the original position.

As the atmosphere of earth is not constant , this causes the light to blink.

Answer:

the stars are very far off. space is basically vacuum. while covering such a long distance, very few rays of light are able to reach . the earth has an atmosphere. there are different layers in it. while the rays pass through the layers of atmosphere, they get refracted.this the cause why stars twinkle. hope this helps you.
