Force=Area*Pressure

(The force that is the weight of water in this case would remain a constant because we are doing this for a fixed amount of water)

From the above information we can understand that Area and Pressure vary inversely for a given force. It means with the increase of area, pressure reduces. So, tankers have a large area.

NOTE: Here,pressure is being reduced because with increased pressure there is a chance of bursting of tanker which would cause loss.
