The circles of latitudes will be smaller as they go from the equator to the poles because these imaginary lines run parallel along the equator and as we advance towards the poles the perimeter or circumference decreases leading to a decrease in the size of the latitudes. In layman terms latitudes can be compared to slices of earth. So the equator is the longest latitude. Also there are 176 latitudes drawn via convention.
