Why do the crops grown in Sandy soil need more frequent irrigation than crops grown in clayey soil?

because sandy soil cannot hold water. its water holding capacity is negligible. whereas clayey soil can hold water for long time that's why it is advisable to do frequent irrigation to the crops growing in sandy soil.
