why do the electrostatic field lines not form closed loop

Electrostatic field is created due to presence of charges. ... The same holds for negative charges. Now, if you assume the electric field due to a point positive charge to form closed loops, it will repel a positive charge placed in one direction while it will attract another positive placed in the opposite direction.

Hey !!

Electric field lines start from positive charge and end at infinity. Therefore, these lines do not form close loop.
