Why do the first and the second ionization energies of group 14 elements decrease from carbon to tin w hereas , the third and the fourth ionization energies vary irregularly?

It is absolutely true that the first and the second ionization energies of group 14 elements decrease from carbon to tin.

when we talk about the third and the 4th IE , Ex in Carbon ,In cae of IE3 , 2electrons of 1 orbital and 1 e of 2 orbital will shield the outermost electron.

similarly if you see the trend in Si and Ge you will observed that there are more electron in Si to shield the outermost electron the carbon and that more than Si in Ge.

This the reason why there is a tremendou change in the IE3 and IE4 of element of group14
