East of the Sahyadris undergoes scanty rainfall because when breezes from the Arabian division sweep the Eastern Ghat, they are relatively barren due to which no or less rainfall happens. Moreover, The other section of South-West monsoon which is known as Bay of Bengal branch moves sidelong to the Eastern Ghats, which results in minimum precipitation.

Deccan plateau holds less rainfall as the wet monsoons progress towards the West Coast of India, they rise up the Western Ghats mountains and the breeze cools. Moreover, the hills prevent the passage of rain-producing climate and form a "shadow" of dryness behind them. Hence interior side receive less rainfall.
