the leaves change colour during autumn fall because during autumn season the chlorophyll pigment present in the leaves degenerates and the other pigments such as xanthophyll take over causing the leaves to appear red Golden or Brown and when there is no more chlorophyll left then there is no more production of food and the leaves does fall down making way for new leaves.
